Darien Perez Ryan is the APPC Research Coordinator for Spanish-language coding. She received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Anthropology from the University of Pennsylvania. Her research while studying at Penn involved ethnographic field studies related to food and culture; particularly, the role of the meal in Hispanic communities and mealtime’s effects on the socialization of children. As a research coordinator, Darien trains a cohort of bilingual undergraduates to capture risk and prosocial content in popular telenovelas and other Spanish-language programming to analyze the health risk implications for Hispanic adolescents.
